Award-winning singer, songwriter, producer Shonte’– has been dubbed “The Woman with the Voice of an Angel.” A distinction that has been bestowed upon the Oakland, CA native with good reason. Shonté began her singing career at the tender age of 2 years old, blending her angelic voice with a 50-member angel choir at the ‘House of God – C. O. G. I. C.’ (Oakland, CA), and became the youngest soloist in the choir’s prestigious performance history. Her gift of song has since been requested for Holy Convocations, State meetings, and District-wide events. In 1999 – under the direction of the Holy Spirit, Shonté embraced her professional calling for the Ministry of Music with jazz-infused vocal stylings that pay homage to musical inspirations: CeCe Winans, Vanessa Bell Armstrong, Billie Holiday and Sarah Vaughan.

Shonté has clearly paid her dues by performing as a background vocalist for: Kierra “KiKi” Sheard (“BET – Sunday Best”), Tachina Danielle, Derick Hall, Morris Le Grande, Lawrence Matthews (Stellar Award Winner), Tony Saunders & The Anointed Voices, and BET Super Bowl Gospel Concert (w/Pastor Charles Jenkins). As the C.E.O of Angel Voice Records (Oakland, CA), she is tasked with keeping the offering of her music both fresh and innovative; yet, she finds time to lend her talent to fellow recording artists who respect and promote her dedication to her craft (Nona Brown’s ‘Inspirational Music Collective’ and ‘Lily Of The Valley’s Voices of Excellence Choir’).

As the recipient of the highly coveted Governor’s Medallion Award (2x’s), she has been named the 2018 “Black Gospel Music Awards” Rising Star, and is proving the sky is the limit to what she can have. Through additional displays of creativity, Shonté has been called upon to assist with the choreography, stage direction and stage management for prominent productions that include: Casey & Erica (Recording Duo), “The King and I”, “Grease” and “Jesus Christ Superstar”; yet, she remains humble enough to step away from the limelight to give back to her community. As the founder of “I Keep God First Ministries”, Shonté uses her deeply rooted faith in God to help youth navigate the challenges of adolescence (through the application of biblical principles). As an artist who lives to share the love of God through music, Shonté is gearing up for the re-release of her debut CD project (“Love Chronicles”), followed by an array of musical installments that are sure to inspire us all.

TZelement MAG: What makes your musical style unique?
Shonte’: My musical style is a blend of Smooth Jazz Neo-Soul R&B and Hip Hop over Inspirational Lyrics through the eyes of a Poet/Lyricist..

TZelement MAG: What are some of the challenges you have faced in trying to ascend to greater heights within the music industry?
Shonte’: I would love to see those in power in the industry reach back and help an indie artist like someone reached out to help them to the next level.

TZelement MAG: What positive message would you share with someone who’s struggling with low self-esteem and/or social acceptance?
Shonte’: Find your gift, the thing that allows you to stand out. Embrace & love who God created you to be. You’ll soon find the thing that makes you different/unique is what draws people to you the most. Dare to be Different.

TZelement MAG: If granted the authority, what 3 things would you change in the world?
Shonte’: A) Having real equality of color, creed, ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation. B) To have Peace between the Races & to be accepted and not pre-judged by the color of your skin. C) To erase “Fear” by stopping Violence by Guns, Sexual Harassment and Police brutality especially against women children and minorities… it’s GOTTA STOP.
