City Harvest

City Harvest, New York City’s largest food rescue organization, will kick off its annual Repack to Give Back event at its Food Rescue Facility in Long Island City on Monday, November 16th.

During the week-long event, City Harvest’s staff will pack thousands of family-sized bags filled with fresh holiday-themed produce and canned items, including cranberry sauce, pumpkin puree, stuffing, and green beans, that will be delivered to food pantries and soup kitchens across the five boroughs in the weeks leading up to Thanksgiving. Repacks will occur in two shifts daily from 8am – 12:30pm and 1pm – 5pm, with social-distancing and CDC guidelines in place.

The event will include a virtual volunteer elementfor the first time in the face of the COVID-19 pandemic. Together in partnership, Credit Suisse, Empire BlueCross BlueShield, Virtu Financial Inc. and 16 other companies raised $435,000 to help City Harvest distribute 200,000 pounds of fresh food to New Yorkers this holiday season. Additionally, corporate groups will have the opportunity to volunteer virtually in honor of Repack To Give Backthrough December 18.

“Even though our corporate supporters can’t volunteer with us at Repack to Give Back in-person this year, they have stepped up in tremendous ways to ensure City Harvest can still provide holiday meals to thousands of families across New York City,” said Victoria Liu, Associate Director of Business Partnerships. “With so many of our neighbors continuing to contend with the economic fallout of the COVID-19 crisis, we remain dedicated to ensuring all New Yorkers can sit down for a meal with their families this holiday season.”

About City Harvest
City Harvest is New York’s first and largest food rescue organization, helping to feed millions of New Yorkers who struggle to put meals on their tables. This year, we will rescue 109 million pounds of fresh, nutritious food and deliver it–free of charge–to more than 400 food pantries, soup kitchens, community partners and our own Mobile Markets across the five boroughs. We work alongside our community partners to boost community capacity, expand nutrition education, and strengthen local food systems. For more than 35 years, City Harvest has always been there to feed our city–one day, one meal, one New Yorker at a time.
